Daleks, star gazers and meteors will be landing at Lacock Abbey this half-term for an exciting array of family activities.

Visitors will be able to bump into a host of science fiction characters from famous films and TV shows, such as Doctor Who, when the Charity Sci-Fi group visit on Sunday, February 16.

Members of the Corsham-based group will be strolling around the snowdrop covered Abbey grounds and in the Fox Talbot Museum from 11am to 3pm.

On Monday, February 17, visitors will have the chance to see meteorites and moon rocks, explore the technology behind infra-red cameras, and gaze at the surface of the sun thanks to the Science and Technologies Facilities Council, Wiltshire Astronomical Society and the Herschel Museum of Bath.

The event starts at 10.30am and finishes at 4pm, and there will be a range of hand-on activities to take part in.

"These events have been inspired by ‘Earth and Sky’, the latest exhibition in the Fox Talbot Museum," said Rachael Holtom, visitor experience officer.

"This stunning photographic show is wowing both adults and children alike. It combines two key interests of William Henry Fox Talbot, who as well as being a photographic pioneer was a keen astronomer.

"We are really excited and pleased to have all these organisations visiting us this February as we launch our celebrations of 175 years since Fox Talbot announced his creation of the first photographic negative."

William Henry Fox Talbot, former owner of Lacock Abbey, invented the photographic negative at Lacock.

The National Trust property is celebrating his achievement throughout 2014 with special events, 175 years after he announced his invention.

Normal National Trust admission fees apply to both events. National Trust members and under fives are admitted free.
