A lorry driver has died following an incident on the M4 this morning.
Shortly after 7am police received reports of a hay lorry, travelling westbound between junction 17 (Chippenham) and junction 18 (Bath), having left the motorway into a ditch approximately 1-2 miles west of Leigh Delamere Services.
Police, ambulance and fire attended but sadly the driver of the white Volvo articulated lorry, a 62-year-old man from St Breward in Cornwall, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lane one and two of the motorway were closed for a period of time to allow for scene examination work to be completed and for the safe recovery of the vehicle. No other vehicles were involved.
Anyone who witnessed the lorry leaving the road or saw it immediately prior to the incident is asked to contact PC David Williams of the Serious Collision Investigation Team (SCIT) on 101.
Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
