CLARRIE Dunbar men have won the central regional group in the Wessex League with an unbeaten record this season, writes DAVE EATON.

Last Sunday they sealed the central region title with their sixth win in a row, a 125-46 demolition of Nailsea.

Dunbar, the reigning overall Wessex champions, had already booked their place in the forthcoming play-offs but needed another victory to claim the central region title.

In their last group match they took 14 points out of a possible 16 against Nailsea to move onto 89 points and an unassailable position at the top of the central group 30 points clear of Bristol who have one match left.

Dunbar took the honours on three of the four rinks against Nailsea with the home rinks laying the foundation for overall victory.

Andy Colebrooke’s foursome produced an awesome result winning by 44 shots and scoring a rare half century of shots in the process. While Russell Francis’ rink weighed-in with a 19 shot success.

Away in Nailsea honours were even with Graham Shadwell’s rink winning by 18 shots while Terry Perkins four were edged out by two shots on the last end.

Clarrie Dunbar and Bristol last season’s play-off finalists will represent the central group again in this year’s play-offs.

Christie Miller (Melksham) also have an outside chance of qualifying for the play-offs and taking one of the four wild cards entries on offer.

But they must beat Purnell (Paulton) in their final match and win on at least three of the four rinks on Sunday, February 23 to have any chance.
