PUPILS went to Covingham Park Junior School extra early yesterday to enjoy an eco-friendly breakfast with staff and parents.

Around 150 local residents, councillors, police community officers as well as parents joined staff and school governors for the breakfast of toast, hot cross buns, fromage frais and fruit to help promote the school’s initiatives for more sustainable travel into school.

With the help of the children who dished out the information, visitors could learn more about the Five Minute Walk Zone scheme and the Walking Bus.

Avril Brown, school travel ambassador at Covingham Park, said: “It went well. I think it was better attended than ever.

“Councillor Julian Price came along and there were two PCSOs, as well as some local residents. and the chair of governors, Tony Foss.”

Covingham Park Junior School was the first school in Wiltshire to receive an award for being eco-friendly, and have continued to push their initiatives to be a more sustainable school Avril said: “Uptake has improved and people are more aware about our five minute walk zone and the walking bus, and we also offer breakfast clubs for parents who need to leave for work earlier.

“It’s just a matter of encouraging more people to get involved, particularly in the five minute walk zone and prevent congestion in the cul-de-sac.” To find out more about Covingham Park Junior School and all their schemes visit www.cpps.swindon.sch.uk.
