Kings, knights and maidens arrived at Dilton Marsh Primary School on Monday for a Medieval banquet to celebrate the end of a six-week topic on castles.

Pupils and staff dressed up in a variety of Medieval costumes for the event, which included a visit from King Frederick, played by Bob Lee, from the Dilton Marsh Players.

The King had previously written a letter to the school asking the pupils to come up with designs for a new castle, with groups making models and presenting their ideas to him.

After the judging took place, pupils performed some Medieval folk dancing for the king, before sitting down for the banquet, which the children helped to create.

Jill Farndale, Year 2 teacher, said: “The whole school has been doing a topic on grand designs, so the younger years focused on castles and the banquet was a way of finishing off the project.

“The King set them criteria for what he wanted as part of his castle and they worked in mixed age groups to come up with designs and find recycled materials for their models.

“The banquet was fantastic and the children had a brilliant time. The parents did themselves proud with the costumes and all the hard work the pupils have put in came across when they showed their designs.”
