GALE-force winds blew down an 8ft high breezeblock wall in Rodbourne Cheney last night smashing two cars’ windscreens and causing further damage to their headlights and bonnets.

Members of the Rodbourne Cheney Working Men’s Club left the venue at 10.45pm on Friday, February 14 to find the car park wall had collapsed littering the road with debris.

Blocks of concrete had fallen on a van and a car shattering windscreens, scratching headlights and denting bonnets.

Clive Welch, 59, of Penhill, spoke of his shock at finding his Vauxhall Combo van in a dreadful state as he made his way into the car park after a game of darts.

“I got to the club at about 8.15pm to play darts,” he said. “When I came out at 10.45pm or 11pm the wall was already down. There were four big blocks against the windscreen and the bonnet and there was debris all around the van. If anybody had been stood outside when it came down, I don’t know what would have happened."
