Waitrose reveals opening date for new Swindon store

This Is Wiltshire: Waitrose will open its doors in Wichelstowe on April 10 Waitrose will open its doors in Wichelstowe on April 10

WAITROSE has announced its new Swindon store will open its doors to customers on Thursday, April 10.

The supermarket, on Mill Lane, will be part of the new Wichelstowe development complex and will provide customers with the full Waitrose offer.

The new store will feature meat, fish, and cheese counters, as well as a café, bakery and wine department. The Waitrose Delivery Service will also be available in Swindon, providing shoppers with the option to have their purchases delivered to their homes at a convenient time.

Earlier this year, Waitrose announced an overwhelming response to job advertisements, with over 700 applicants applying for approximately 150 new positions that the store will create.

As Partners in the John Lewis Partnership they receive a share in annual profits and a say in how the business is run.

Partners will also be offering 250 hours of their time every year to support local causes through the retailer’s Partner Volunteering scheme.

Swindon store manager, Ian Smith, said: “Work is now well underway on the new store, and we are very happy to announce an opening date. We can’t wait to open our doors in April and look forward to becoming part of the local community.”

Yes there are a few chavs at Wichelstowe but the majority are ok and with the new policy of building less affordable housing it might make it more upmarket - can't wait to get my free coffee and newspaper.

Cannot agree with Morsey - did a big shop at ASDA last week. In the price comparison, Waitrose came a close second to Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury a lot dearer. I have shopped at Waitrose for years at Marlborough and Cirencester and found it to be reasonable - plus their home delivery is free unlike the others.

That's an inverted snobbery myth.

All the big supermarkets are pretty much equal, give or take a couple of pounds, on a regular shopping basket these days.

But if it keeps you out of Waitrose, yes, I agree, it's WELL expensive.

They can't be beaten for quality! and you get what you pay for. There's so many stores in this town, i think people are savvy enough to pick and choose depending on what they need. If you want something a bit different or special, you pop to Waitrose or even M&S. If you need German meatballs and a compressor.. you go to Aldi. Horses for courses!

I can't say I'm really surprised - I'm studying for a doctorate at a Russell Group university and in the last year have come into contact with a few third year English Language undergraduates - and guess what - their grammar and spelling is appalling!

This story was about a store opening in witchelstowe, however it is always good to see how a comments section brings out the best in people. A mention of price points was swiftly replaced, by benefit scroungers, chavs, illiterate teachers, more pedants than you can shake a stick at finally a sole voice reminding us all a store was opening.

I am quite happy I moved to Swindon, we are a good mix of people and by no means a bunch of stuck up tossers, well done all.

Oh lighten up - that might be a characteristic which the 'best in people' show!

This is a "here today gone tomorrow" comments section, for gods sake! Now that I've mentioned god, would anyone like a discussion about whether or not god exists? I say no! I don't think it's irrelevant to this thread as god is supposed to exist simultaneously everywhere - so I would expect that to include Wicheslstowe (unless it's a godless hell hole!).

I think you will find it is 'choose' not 'chose'.

Panda you really are not helping yourself here - perhaps having revealed yourself as a teacher you might be advised to carefulyl check all your posts for accuracy - or you cannot complain about being picked up on such poor grammar!

They use iPads in class these days, so unless we all want our kids to write poorly I don't think it is any excuse......
Give them a break. Maybe they're a PE teacher!

A PE teacher who needs to "prepare for the new term"?

Unlike you, who only uses the wholly unbiased BBC, Channel 4, The Mirror and The Guardian to obtain your 'facts'.

My brother in law is a deputy head teacher, a very good one at a very good school. He also happens to tell the truth about the profession, holidays and 'spending all our time marking and 'preparing' lessons'.

If more people knew the ACTUAL reality, the stuff of the 'right wing press' would seem like a pro-teacher fluff piece.
