Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and Wiltshire Police are two of the emergency services now part of Twitter Alerts as the UK faces severe, repeated weather and flood warnings.

Twitter has been working with the UK services to ensure that the social media site is as useful as possible to those on the front line.

By Friday, 38 regional UK fire brigades had joined the Twitter Alerts programme, giving them more ways to help deliver crucial information to the public in times of crisis.

The initiative was launched in November 2013, and takes the total number of participating organisations to 95 in the UK and Ireland, including the Environment Agency and Mayor of London's office.
