Help could soon be at hand for people struggling with financial problems in Wiltshire, with the launch of a new money management scheme.

Melksham-based mental health charity Wiltshire Mind is running the Better Money Management project through its You In Mind groups, which take place across north and west Wiltshire.

A financial capability advisor from Wiltshire Citizens’ Advice will provide information on financial literacy, balancing a budget and handling debt, to the free sessions.

Wiltshire Mind CEO David Mckeigue said: “The intention is not to turn our attendees into budding financial experts, but importantly, in these times of austerity, provide them with a general awareness of financial literacy, budget planning and debt avoidance as well as signpost anybody to the correct agency if more expert help is required.

“Through the advice sessions it is also intended that physical and emotional wellbeing will be improved as often financial worries and debt can lead to stress and anxiety.

“What’s great about these sessions is that they will be delivered in the same environment that our client members are used to very week.

“That plays a big part in their security and confidence and breaks down any barriers which may normally prevent them from attending such a session”.

The sessions will take place in Melksham, Chippenham, Devizes and Malmesbury.

The first of the workshops took place in Trowbridge on Wednesday.
