Volunteers planted three Codford Julia’s Late Golden apple trees and other regional varieties of apple trees at Southwick Country Park on Tuesday morning.

Julia’s Late Golden was discovered in the garden of Paul and Mary Hember’s Codford home in 2002 and named after their daughter Julia, who died of leukaemia, aged 33, in 2003.

Mrs Hember, said: “I’m pleased we managed to get a lot of trees planted.”

Altogether 34 trees were planted, included those which will produce Dredge’s Fame, Bedwyn Beauty and Beauty of Bath. For every Julia’s Late Golden tree planted, a donation is asked for St Bart’s Hospital, in London, which treated Julia.
