Drummer Simon Hanson is launching the first of several monthly jamming sessions at The Wheatsheaf Inn, Calne, in memory of 11-year-old Jade Randall.

Jade, a pupil at St Nicholas School, Chippenham, died at Naomi House in 2012 after battling several genetic disorders during her lifetime.

The hospice, which offers respite and palliative care for young people with life-limiting conditions, began caring for Jade when she was six months old.

Mr Hanson, 33, of Braemor Road, is a family friend of Jade’s parents Nikki and Lee Brown, and will raise money for Naomi House.

Families are invited to join in on the day and there will be percussion instruments so children can take part, including an African drum and bells belonging to Jade.

Jade’s mum Nikki, 32, of Penhill Road, Calne, said: “It’s important that the things she enjoyed playing with don’t just get forgotten about and put in a cupboard so they can still be enjoyed by other people.

“She was deaf so she was very much into vibrations. She was a sociable little girl and she would have loved something like this.

“Naomi House is just an absolutely amazing place. There’s no way on earth that we would have got through Jade’s life without them.

“Their support at the end, when she needed palliative care, was faultless.

“It’s amazing that he’s taken this on and that he’s committed to supporting Jade’s legacy.”

Mr Hanson, a builder, has the support of pub landlords Mark and Maria Shurmer and has already raised £280 at two jam sessions last year.

He said: “I used to do jam sessions in The Wheatsheaf just for fun, but as soon as we turned into Jam for Jade they wanted us in there once a month.

“The charity is close to their heart. They know Nikki because it’s a tight community in Calne.

“I knew Jade for a couple of years, and I was fortunate to have a chance to say goodbye to her. The family are like my family basically.

“The whole idea is that it’s Jade’s legacy. We want people to celebrate Jade’s life.”

The event from 3pm to 9pm on March 9 is free. There will be a donation bucket at the bar. Type Jam for Jade at the Wheatsheaf in the Facebook search bar.
