Donations are being sought for a Bratton relief collection for Somerset’s flood victims.

Simone Brown has organised the collection at Bratton Pavilion between 8am and 8pm today and 10am to 4pm tomorrow, to help people affected by the extreme weather in Somerset.

Bedding, towels, clothing, toiletries, toys, books and kitchenware will be gratefully received.

Mrs Brown, who lives in Stradbrook, said: “After seeing all those people suffering I decided to speak to people on Facebook about a collection and it grew from there.

“My message would be come along and donate what you can.

“I live in a village where everyone helps each other and there’s a great community so hopefully everyone from across Wiltshire can come together, show some great British spirit, and donate to help those in Somerset.”

Mrs Brown, who works for Candlelight Care, in Trowbridge, has been in contact with social care group Somerset Direct about the collection and will be working with the flood’s Silver Command relief team to get the items to those who need them.

Mrs Brown’s husband jointly runs GT Brown haulage company in Steeple Ashton and one of its trucks will be used to deliver the donations to Somerset.

Villagers will do shifts at the pavilion to oversee the donation drops and have also been picking up donations from people unable to get to Bratton this week.

Mrs Brown, who has two children – four-year-old Archie and 15-month-old Daisy – said: “I’d like to thank everybody who has been involved with special thank you going to my friends Laura Gee and Lesley Pickford.”
