TWO EARLY goals were enough for Frome Town to notch up their fourth win in five games at Badgers Hill last weekend.

Tim Stephenson and Ben Wood both netted within the first 12 minutes to hand Adrian Foster's side a 2-0 victory over Hitchin Town.

After the early exchanges, Frome’s first goal arrived in the ninth minute as Wood whipped in a low hard corner, and, as Tajh Bell stooped to collect it, defender Stephenson arrived and poked the ball into the net from a yard out.

The Robins' lead was then doubled three minutes later as Ben Thomson burst through down the left flank and pulled the ball back to Ricky Hulbert.

Hulbert's shot was blocked shot was blocked but the ball ran to Wood, who hit a great right-footed strike into the far corner from just outside the penalty area.

Hitchin responded and looked to get back into the game, and for periods of the first half they had the better of possession and territory, but an organised Frome made it difficult for their opponents to find a way through to goal

Hitchin applied some pressure in the minutes leading up to the break, but Jack Vallis thwarted them twice, and their first real shot on target arrived in the 43rd minute as Darren Chitty went low to save in the corner as an effort came low through a sea of legs.

The second half saw the hosts start well, with Matt Smith bringing a save from Bell in the 46th minute, and a good move in the 53rd minute led to a Wood snapshot just evading the post.

That was to be the last real chance of note as Foster's men shut up shop and claimed a comfortable three points.
