Local chef Peter Vaughan is showing pupils at a Calne school that baking bread is great fun as well as being a healthier way to eat. Mr Vaughan is holding four master classes at St Margaret’s Preparatory School as part of a national project organised by the Academy of Culinary Arts. He wants to teach the children that healthy eating and cooking can be fun for the whole family. But he also educates them about how bread arrives on their tables by taking them through the whole ‘field to plate’ process.

Mr Vaughan, who owns two businesses in Devizes – The Bistro Restaurant and also a cookery school, Vaughan’s Kitchen, where people learn to cook multicultural food focusing on naturally balanced cuisine, is passionate about baking and his enthusiasm rubs off on his pupils. He said: “Sliced white bread that is made in a factory is not a very healthy option but I want the children to come to their own conclusions after they try different varieties and have fun baking.”
