Roundway allotment holders put up a boundary hedge helping to save the parish council some money.

The allotments, off Green Lane, opened last June and have proved popular with residents eager to grow their own produce.

On Saturday, 12 allotment holders planted 370 plants which will become a hedge on the eastern boundary of the site.

Roundway parish councillor Albert Wooldridge supervised the planting. The council paid for the hedge at just over £500 but, thanks to the efforts of the allotment holders, saved money on paying for a contractor.

Coun Wooldridge said: “Without the help of the allotment holders the parish council would not have been able to carry out planting the hedge until next year. The hedge will act as a wind break.”
