Civic-minded people in the Devizes area are being urged to take part in a day of community action in June.

Devizes Community Area Partnership (DCAP) is organising The Big Pledge on Friday, June 26, in which volunteers will roll up their sleeves and help make the town a better place to live in.

Claire Markwell of DCAP said: “Essentially this is a day in which the community, schools, the private sector and the public sector all join forces and work together to improve our surroundings. With the full support of Wiltshire Council and Devizes Town Council, we want to know what locals would like to see done.

“From helping clear the storm damage at Drews Pond to creating planters and improving the look of The Brittox, and from tidying up individual estates and neighbourhoods to filling hanging baskets around the town, this is our chance to decide what needs to be done.

“Having established a list of tasks we will need volunteers – businesses allowing staff a couple of hours off, schools rallying their students, whole families volunteering together.

“We will also be looking for sponsorship – maybe paint and wood, maybe cakes and buns, maybe printing or staff hours, all will be gratefully accepted.

“As a thank you, we will be having a big party in the Market Place to celebrate what can be achieved when we work together.”
