Oare Primary School is one step closer to its £100,000 fundraising target, after a sell-out concert.

The school has been fundraising for two new classrooms over the last 18 months and hopes they will be competed ahead of September’s centenary celebrations.

The Pewsey Belles ladies choir and clarinet ensemble Chalumeau joined the children at Holy Trinity Church in the village for the concert last Saturday, which raised more than £600 for the appeal.

School governor Alison Netherclift said: “There was a fantastic atmosphere. We must have had 75 to 80 people, which filled the church, so some of the children had to sit on the floor.

“There was a good mix of people. As well as parents and children, there were villagers, because the community have supported us throughout our fundraising so we wanted to give something back to them.”

The new classrooms will be used for music lessons, one-to-one tuition and to teach small groups.

Oare Primary School now needs to raise an additional £7,000 to reach its £100,00 target and its PTA will be hosting a ball in June to help boost the final fundraising drive.

Mrs Netherclift said: “The school has expanded in terms of the number of pupils, so the classrooms have had to be made bigger to accommodate this, which means we have lost any additional space that we had.

“At the moment, our piano is in the corridor, which the children have got used to.

“It means that when the piano teacher comes in, people keep walking past during the lessons.”
