POLICE have smashed an organised ring of drug suppliers sending in an undercover officer to snare street dealers.

The BB Gang was known as a reliable source of heroin and crack cocaine who would deliver drugs by car after taking orders over the phone.

But after the plain clothes cop was sent in to infiltrate the murky subculture of addicts, brothers Barry and Devontae Bramble have ended up behind bars.

Barry, 20, and Devontae, 18, would answer the phone and meet the users to sell them the drugs they had asked for.

Tessa Hingston, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court how the operation to bring down the dealers unfolded last autumn.

She said “In August and September last year an undercover police officer, Jim, made a number of assignations with members of the BB Gang and made test purchases of heroin and crack cocaine.”

On each occasion the officer called a mobile number and spoke to a man except for one time when a female said they would call back in 10 minutes, and a man did.

Miss Hingston said in one instance while Jim was waiting for a delivery he got chatting with another user who was waiting to buy drugs.

“That man, Tommy, said to him the last time the BB Gang delivered to him in West Swindon in a car,” she said.

Barry Bramble, of Tyde-man Street, Gorse Hill, pleaded guilty to eight counts of supply of class A drugs and one of possession with intent to supply.

Devontae, who lives with his brother, admitted supplying heroin and cocaine.

Rob Ross, for Barry, said he got involved in the drugs trade after receiving threats when another member of the family ran up debts.

He said his client was an intelligent man, having gained 11 decent GCSEs.

Martin Wiggins, for Devontae, said his client was just 17 at the time of the offending and was less involved than his brother.

He said he was one of ten siblings whose mother was a drug addict and did not know their father, having been raised by his grandmother.

Jailing them Judge Tim Mousley QC said: “Both of you were motivated by financial gain in order to commit this offence.

“This was street dealing and the appropriate sentence therefore is an immediate custodial sentence.”

He sentenced Barry two years and four months and Devontae to two years.

The three teenagers, who all admitted dealing, each received detention and training orders when they were sentenced in the youth court.

One of the girls, from Oakhurst, and the boy, of Kingshill, each got eight months, and the other girl, of Nythe, four months though she is to appeal the sentence.

Last year the Brambles’ older brother Rowell was jailed or two years after he was caught with crack cocaine worth more than £5,000.

The 25-year-old, of Millennium Way, Cirencester, was caught with 112 grams of the drug on the A419 close to the M4.
