It was like summer for the congregation of All Saints' Church, All Cannings, after its 40-year-old boiler was replaced.
An a £8,500 grant from Viridor Credits Environment Company, which administers the landfill grants, made the £12,000 replacement possible.
Peter Griffin, who was church warden but continued to manage the project to completion after stepping down, said: “Allington and All Cannings villages being small communities could not raise the money without Viridor’s help, for which we are very grateful.”
The balance of the installation cost was raised in the village partly by the church council activities such as coffee mornings, 100 club and donations. Other fundraising was by the Friends of All Saints’ Church which had already helped with the cost of a disabled toilet, kitchenette, overhaul of the rare Thomas Cooke clock in the bell tower and replacement roof covering after a lead theft.
Last year the Friends, whose activities have included a flower festival murder mystery and chilli evening, donated £3,600 to the church roof. This year £1,700 was provided which was spent on the boiler.
