Cyclists and runners are asked to join in a sponsored nine-mile walk/run/ride along beautiful countryside routes in Chippenham to raise money for the world’s poorest communities next month.
The annual event from St Paul’s Church, along Maud Heath’s Causeway to the top of Wick Hill, draws a regular crowd of 20 walkers but last year just two cyclists and no runners took up the challenge.
Organiser Paul Piggin, of Chippenham Churches Together, is hoping to tempt more participants to join them for the 2014 challenge for Christian Aid, on Saturday, April 12.
He said: “The route lends itself to people of all ages taking part and is largely flat and paved – until we get to Wick Hill, of course.
“It would be wonderful to see some cyclists and runners join us this year and, of course, more walkers are also welcome.
“If the stunning countryside or prospect of raising vital funds to help families around the world wasn’t enough, I can also guarantee refreshments en route at Tytherton Moravian Church and a wonderful lunch and refreshments in the garden of two supporters in Langley Burrell.”
The event comes just ahead of this year’s Christian Aid Week, from May 11-17, when the public will be asked to help communities in war- ravaged countries to rebuild lives. The walk starts at 9.30am and the ride and run at 10.30am. For details, see www.standrewschippenham.
