Map ruse to snatch card
Police in Corsham have warned shoppers to take extra care when paying with cards, after an elderly man had his stolen.
The man, in his 80s, used his card at the Co-op on February 10 at 4.40pm, but was followed out by two women and a man, believed to be eastern European.
They approached him with a map and distracted him by asking for directions, while taking his wallet. His bank card was used several times locally and in Birmingham.
Corsham town beat manager PC Hazel Anderson said: “People should take extra care when paying for things, and make sure to cover their PIN. Stay on your guard if you think people are trying to distract you. This man was thinking he was helping someone, when actually they were taking his wallet.”
