WESTBURY became only the third team to keep a clean sheet against Wincanton as they picked up a fine point and even had the better chances to win the game.

Strong defending by Matt Friendship, Matt Jones and Simon Millard kept Wincanton’s free scoring front line to long range efforts.

Home striker Marc Lanfear had two excellent chances with the first coming on nine minutes when he headed wide from a Mark Young corner.

Other openings came via good runs by DJ Wheeler but several shots were weak and easy saves for visiting keeper John Hill. With no easy chances coming their way due to the good home defending all three of Town’s forwards tried their luck from outside the box with Lee Gale, Matt Chant and Matt Peters all off target in the first half.

Gale had a goal disallowed with half time approaching when he was adjudged to have committed an offence by blocking United keeper Rob Brown’s kick before rolling the ball into the net.

Lanfear had the best chance of the match soon after half time when Wheeler sent him through one on one with Hill only for Lanfear to roll his finish inches wide!

Town had their best opening with three minutes remaining but Mike Taylor’s header from George Rogers’ corner went wide before Nick Taylor struck a fierce 25 yarder at the other end only for the ball to strike a team mates’ head!
