Budding athletes in Corsham have plenty of chances to do their bit for Sport Relief at the weekend, with opportunities to run, walk and cycle for a good cause.

On Friday students at The Corsham School will be wearing red to run a mile on the school field during PE lessons and lunch breaks to raise much-needed funds.

Friday will also see the town’s swimmers take to the pool for the first of a two-day swimmathon. Taking place at Springfield Leisure Centre, the event will see teams and individuals swimming a variety of different lengths.

Duty supervisor Michelle Beasley said: “They can do it either as a team or individual, and there are different distances, 5, 1.5 or 2.5km. It will all be set out in different lanes, for people to go at different speeds.

“We have been doing it a long time now as a regular event, and it’s usually quite popular; lots of people often come along to watch and show their support.

“There is a young chap from a church group taking part, and all of the youths will come along to show their support.”

Registration was closing for the event on Wednesday but anyone can go along to watch.

Finally Sunday will see the town’s cyclists saddle up to take part in a ‘Freewheeling’ afternoon at the Katherine Park estate.

Freestone Way will be closed to traffic from 1-2.30pm, to allow all kinds of bikes to take over for a free community event.
