POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an accident on the A4361 on Tuesday in which a 40-year-old man was thrown from his vehicle when it flipped over.

The driver, from Swindon, was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol with life-threatening injuries, and is in a critical but stable condition.

The accident happened at around 1.41pm on the A4361 at Winterbourne Bassett, Bowman’s Wood, near Swindon.

The car involved was a silver Ford Ka cabriolet which had been travelling south along the A4361 towards Winterbourne Bassett from Broad Hinton.

The car had been travelling with a black Honda Civic, which is believed to have been involved in the accident.

Its driver remained at the scene and did not suffer any injuries.

The driver of the Ford Ka suffered serious chest injuries.

Wiltshire Police have asked that anyone who witnessed the accident or events immediately prior to it, and hasn’t already made contact with them, to do so immediately.

PC David Williams, of the serious collision investigation team, said: “We are looking at a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a silver Ford KA, which overturned and ended up partially on the road and partially on the grass verge.

“The driver was ejected from the vehicle.

“The car had been travelling in tandem with a black Honda Civic before it lost control.

“We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the two cars prior to the crash or seen the accident itself and who haven’t already made themselves known to us to come forward.

“The driver of the vehicle is currently in a critical but stable condition after he suffered severe chest and back injuries.”

Witnesses can call PC Williams on 101.
