A POLICE investigation is under way into the bus crash that killed Caitlin Hunt.

Although it is still in its early stages, police believe it was nothing more than a tragic accident.

Paramedics and police officers attended the incident, which took place shortly before 5.50pm on Tuesday at Moredon Road, close to the junction with Church Walk, but despite their best efforts, Caitlin died at the scene.

Inspector Paul Hacker, from Wiltshire Police, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts remain with Caitlin’s family at this time.

“I would like to reassure the local community that a robust police investigation is well under way and ask that anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact police immediately.

“At this stage of the investigation, it appears that this was a tragic accident.”

It is believed Caitlin was playing with her brother and a friend outside the parade of shops opposite her primary school when she apparently darted out in front of a single-decker Thamesdown Transport bus.

Paul Jenkins, managing director of Thamesdown Transport, said: “We are fully co-operating with police investigations, however our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time. We are also supporting our driver and the team who have been affected by this accident.”

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Team are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision and have not yet spoken to police to come forward immediately.
