HELLENIC LEAGUE: Highworth's player problems ease

This Is Wiltshire: Highworth Town manager John Fisher Highworth Town manager John Fisher

HIGHWORTH Town manager John Fisher is in the unusual position of having a full squad available for tomorrow’s clash with Hellenic League Premier Division leaders Ardley United.

Having been plagued by player unavailablities in recent weeks, the Worthians’ boss is hoping that things will not change before kick-off tomorrow.

“It is hardly surprising that when we are playing the leaders will have everyone available,” Fisher said. “It is just when you are playing the teams down the bottom is when you get all the drop-outs.

“Of course, this could all change by tea-time, but hopefully with a cup quarter-final (against Shortwood United) on Monday it won’t.”

The veteran manager says that his task has been made easier for tomorrow’s selection as they players he called in favours from are unavailable.

“I don’t know what I would have done if they were available,” he said. “What do you do in that situation? Do you stick with the players who helped me out when I needed them or do I go with my players who are available again?

“I had a bit of a moan at the lads after Tuesday’s match (against Kidlington) and hopefully it has stuck in the right part of the brain.”

Although Highworth’s title challenge is over, Fisher insists he will field his strongest possible side for the visit of Ardley, despite Monday’s Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup quarter-final.

“It is not like we are Manchester City where I can field a second string side,” Fisher said. “I shall put out the best side I can for Saturday.

“Hopefully we can get the win and get through the game injury-free and then I’ll start planning for Monday.

“Getting through the semi-final will keep the season alive.”

Fisher does have one player who is struggle to be fit for the weekend, Brad Clark, but he is hopeful that the striker will have recovered from his knee injury in time.
