MALMESBURY Victoria manager Gareth Davies believes that, potentially, he has a very good side on his hands.

The Vics chief brought the vast majority of his squad over from Highworth Town reserves when he was in charge there.

And, while he admits that this term has been a learning curve for all involved, Davies feels that the team will be better for the experience.

Malmesbury currently sit fourth from bottom and only three points separate them from the bottom two in Hellenic League Division One West.

“I know how good these players can be as they were with me at Highworth,” Davies said. “We just need them to start believing in themselves that are very good players.

“They are 18, 19, 20 and 21 year olds, but they are not making as many mistakes as they were earlier in the season so they are learning.

“I think that we will be a better side for it next year, but first we need to start pulling away from where we are.”

The Vics will attempt take two of their home clash with Lydney Town after the first game was abandoned before the final whistle due to the rain.

Davies will hand on-loan Swindon Supermarine keeper Keiron Shail a late fitness test on his hamstring problem, however, stopper Joe Snell is fit again after his hamstring injury.

Malmesbury are also hopeful of having Fairford Town defender Callum Marshall on board for the weekend, while attacking midfielder Jason McGovern is set to sign on as well.

Meanwhile, New College will be looking to build on their 3-1 midweek win over Clanfield when they entertain second placed Shortwood United.

The two sides met at the start of the month at Shortwood with the Meadowbank team running out 3-1 winners.

But New College has gone through a managerial change, with Mark Teasdale at the helm in place of Rob Hopkins, and will hope that they can gain revenge at the Webb's Wood Stadium.
