Children at Acorns Pre-school in Kington St Michael discovered how much fun a cardboard box holds in No Toys Day.

Manager Lee Churchill has just completed a play leader qualification at the village primary school, which last year used lottery funding to buy a play pod containing recycled items donated from the Wiltshire Scrapstore.

He wanted to spread the ethos of encouraging children’s creativity and imagination through free play, cooking, craft and songs.

Mr Churchill, who took over as manager in June last year, said: “There were towers built, dens made and role play adventures created.”

Dance teacher Georgie Taylor guided the children in acting out the story of the Hungry Caterpillar using the cardboard boxes.

They also made cookies and pizza and played outside.
