SHRIVENHAM manager Sam Collier believes that Dave Turner will be looking down his side with a big smile after they claimed their second win in a week.

The Barrington Park side picked up their first success since the tragic and untimely passing of Turner in February last Tuesday night and they followed that up with a 2-1 victory at Reading Town on Saturday.

“The lads are all still playing for Dave,” Collier said. “They remember him every week and I’m sure that he is looking down on us and will be very pleased.

“It has been a tough few months for us, but the lads have all stuck together – they are all mates and they play for each other.

“That win on Tuesday night was massive for us and it gave us the confidence to go and do it again at Reading.”

Shrivenham came flying out of the blocks in Berkshire and they took the lead in the second minute.

However, at a windy Scours Lane, the hosts fought back and grabbed a scrappy leveller before the break.

But Collier’s men were determined not to go home without the three points and a fine passing move was ended with Dave Coleman finding the net.

“We started brightly at Reading, but because of the wind we knew that we just had to try and stay in the game,” Collier said.

“I said to the lads at half-time that we could go on and win this match and we controlled the second half.

“To be honest it could have been a lot more comfortable than that it was, but to get another three points and climb the table is great.”

The win at Reading moves Shrivenham up to 15th in Hellenic League Premier Division as they leap-frogged Cheltenham Saracens on goal difference.

And with a testing clash with Abingdon United tomorrow night, Collier knows that Shrivenham have to maintain their form.

“Now that we have caught the team that was above us, we now want to catch the next one (Bracknell Town),” he said.

“We have got Abingdon next, I know they are below us in the table, but they have brought in a few players and scored three against (second-placed) Wantage.

“The aim is to make it three wins on the bounce. I have spoken to people at the club and they can’t remember when the last time that happened.”
