A young boy has been hit by a car in Royal Wootton Bassett High Street this afternoon.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman confirmed the child, thought to be aged around six years old, was struck by a green Honda Civic in the road at around 3.14pm near the junction with Rope Yard, which is close to Wootton Bassett Infants School.

Police and paramedics are on the scene and the road is said to be blocked in both directions and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes.

The boy is said to be conscious and breathing and suffering a suspected fractured leg.

A spokesman for South West Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 3.11pm to a road traffic collision involving a car and pedestrian in High Street, Royal Wootton Bassett.

“The pedestrian is a male, aged six. He has got ankle injuries on the left-hand side.”

There is no record of the boy being transferred to hospital at this stage.
