More than 450 children from primary schools around Devizes had an occasion to remember when they took part in the Devizes Lions’ sports coaching weekend.
Club members were delighted that so many children had responded to their invitation to try a sport they had not experienced before.
The children made a modest financial contribution to their sessions, but otherwise the funding and administration were carried out by the Lions.
Opportunities included athletics, volleyball, bowls, fencing, canoeing, riding and 13 other sports at ten venues, all under the tuition of qualified coaches.
Lion Jerry King said: “The turnout was better than in recent years and the club was grateful for the cooperation of the many local facility managers and sports coaches, who helped to make the event possible.
“The enjoyment was helped by the glorious spring weather, that so many mothers were prepared to let their children take part over Mothering Sunday and that almost everyone was on time, having remembered to reset their clocks.”
