MORE money will be added to the kitty supporting the family of cancer sufferer Sebastian Murtough on Friday night as part of Paddy Fitzpatrick’s latest boxing show.
The Irish trainer, who runs Fitzpatrick’s Boxing Gym in Ferndale Road, has taken it upon himself to stage events and raise money for the 21-month-old’s family as they deal with the costs of chemotherapy.
Paddy’s most famous boxer, world title contender George Groves, will be in attendance as a special guest for the night, and take part in a Q&A session as well as an auction for Sebastian.
The youngster continues his recovery from a serious operation to remove a tumour from his left kidney.
He is now expected to undergo an intensive period of chemotherapy in London, which will put a significant emotional and financial strain on his family.
Every ticket bought to attend the show will be put into a raffle for the sold-out Carl Froch versus Groves bout in Wembley next month.
“George is involved in what is going to be the biggest fight in British history. Friday night is a chance for people to win tickets to be there just by coming to our show,” said Paddy.
“There should be 18 bouts and we’ve got boxers coming from all over the country.
“Jose Mantinan, Seb’s uncle, is fighting on the night. He is the reason I got involved with raising money for Seb in the first place. It is nice for him to be able to fight on the card.
“We raised about £1,100 for Seb and if we do it right on Friday then we could get up to £3,000.
“I think it is great if anybody can do anything for another human being but when a man like George Groves, who is in training for the fight of his life, gives up his time to support something like this that is fantastic. It isn’t a big deal for him, he just wants to keep May free ahead of the fight.”
The show itself was not created especially for Sebastian, it is an opportunity for Paddy’s stable of boxers to get some fight practice, but attention on Groves and the boxers on the night is expected to lead to a bigger fundraising total for Sebastian.
