Bride and groom Charlie and Mike Gilbert turned heads in Chippenham this week when they popped into McDonalds for their first meal as man and wife.

Staff at the fast food chain restaurant on Bath Road were astounded when Mrs Gilbert, 29, entered in full wedding gown and veil at lunchtime on Friday, but were happy to oblige the couple with happy meals on their happy day.

The couple didn’t know each other until nine weeks ago, but now they are wed and living in Anchor Road, Calne after meeting on an online dating site.

Onlookers stared as the bride and groom arrived in the ribboned wedding car and then queued up to order two chicken deluxe meals.

Mrs Gilbert, born Murray, said: “We clicked from day one. We planned the wedding in one month. My friends loved it because they can see how happy I am.

“I said to his parents when we were planning things, after we get married I’ll be hungry so we’re going to McDonalds. Everyone thought I was joking.”

Mr Gilbert, 35, who works at B&Q in Swindon, said: “We had a few strange looks when we pulled up. My brother spent eight hours cleaning and polishing the car.

“Charlie was absolutely stunning.”

They shared the experience with five family members and work colleagues before joining the rest of the wedding party at the White Hart in Calne, where they were too full to touch the buffet.
