ATHLETICS: Silver joy for Fiona
WESTBURY’S Fiona Price is toasting a dream international debut after claiming a team medal at the World Masters Athletics Championships Half Marathon in Hungary last weekend.
On Sunday, the 46-year-old wore her first Great Britain kit as she secured a fifth-placed finish in the women’s vet 45 category in Budapest, notching up a time (1:27.57) only bettered by her display at last month’s Bath Half Marathon (1:26:58).
The mother-of-four, who runs a catering business, was also picked for the vet 40 age group’s team event and helped twins Sian and Lisa Finlay take silver behind the host nation.
“I was absolutely elated – I thought that I’d end up finishing eighth or ninth, so fifth is amazing,” said Price, 46.
“It was really different because you spent a lot of time looking for other people in your age group, but I don’t think I could have pushed it any further than I did.
“I didn’t expect to come back with a medal and because I completed the race, I can wear my Great Britain kit in this country now and I’ll be doing that with pride.
“I’d love to do more internationals and after I do the London Marathon (April 13), I’m going to start doing some track training because there’s the World Masters track championships in Lyon next year (August 2015). I’d love to do the 10,000m there.”
