Students at Devizes School showed their skill at journalism when they took part in the BBC’s School Story initiative.

A total of 25 students from Years 7 to 12 took part last week, as well as 11 pupils from Bishops Cannings and Nursteed primary schools.

Teacher Helen Taylor, the Key Stage 4 co-ordinator for English and film studies, said: “We had an excellent variety of stories, all chosen by the students, covering topics ranging from the building work in D block, the Kenya school trip this summer, our Science Week experiments, the Wizard of Oz school production, and also issues facing the larger community, such as the busy traffic in Bath Road, a story that our sixth form media students were inspired to cover following their scanning of the Gazette & Herald on the day.

“Students were excellent in working to the tight 2pm deadline, all stories were written and videos complete and edited on time.”

Miss Taylor added: “One of our students, Daisy, said, ‘It’s great just to connect with people’.”
