SOUTHBROOK boss Albert Dearing is confident his team can overcome the rigours of playing mid-week football as they close out their Wiltshire League Premier Division campaign.

Dearing still has players on a talking ban with regards to the league title but their 3-2 at Ludgershall Sports means that if Southbrook win all their games in-hand they would snatch top spot from leaders Supermarine Sports.

Southbrook found themselves 1-0 down at half-time but came back in the second half with three goals before conceeding with game’s last kick to take some sheen of the scoreline.

Dearing was eventually happy with the performance though he did admit that his side didn’t start playing until the second 45.

“It was job done in the end, we weren’t very convincing in the first-half, we weren’t happy with ourselves at half-time and had a few sorted a few things out. We were much better second-half,” Dearing told the Adver.

Asked whether title whispers had crept back into the dressing room Dearing said: “Not yet, once we get some of the games in-hand out of the way maybe we’ll look at it.

“We’re going into two games a week from Tuesday 15th. It’s always difficult with 6.15pm kick-offs, you accept it is not going to be your strongest side out mid-week because of unavailability, shifts and what have you.

“We have got a good squad when we have one or two missing we like to think it doesn’t make too big a difference but if you have more it can be a problem but we rotate regularly.”

On Saturday Southbrook did show their strength after battling though to half-time at 1-0 down they took the game to Ludgershall Sports after the break.

Ryan Gilliver equalised from a corner then further goals from Doug Bryan and Matty Bennett sewed the game up until the hosts burst those seams slightly with their late consolation.

Elsewhere in Premier Division Wroughton won a big game 2-1 in the relegation battle, drawing level on 19 points with their visitors Wilts Calne Town.

Corsham reserves caused an upset in their Senior Knock-Out Cup semi-final,winning 2-1 after extra time at Trowbridge.

In Division One Melksham won again, this time at Malmesbury Victoria reserves 6-2. The win maintains their two-point league lead but they have five games in-hand on second-placed Intel.

Intel themselves won 3-1 away at Sarum Youth Seniors and Wootton Bassett development picked up three points with a 4-1 at basement club Blunsdon.
