WESTWOOD News went into their final league match of the season needing to beat Bradford United Reserves and win by nine clear goals in the process to pip Trowbridge Town Reserves to the runners-up spot in Division Two.

Mark Hurkett’s side had home advantage over their local rivals, who they had beaten 7-0 in their previous encounter and the hosts, who led 1-0 at the interval, delivered a second-half goal blitz to hit eight unanswered goals which gave them second place on goals scored.

Bradford defended brilliantly in the first half and all Westwood had to show for their superiority was a Ben Ludwell goal and the runners-up spot seemed a long way off.

After the break two quick goals from Ludwell and Josh Maguire put Westwood three up.

The goals then dried up until midway through the half when another burst saw them open up a 6-0 lead, Mark Robinson, Rich Jones and Ashley Styles finding the net.

Westwood then threw bodies forward as they went in search of more goals and thanks to a late surge as Bradford were tiring they netted the required goals to earn them back to back promotions. Mark Maguire, Steve Bryant and a second from Robinson making up the nine.
