Trowbridge Road in Bratton has now been reopened after a discarded military grenade was discovered in a field.
Police and military bomb disposal experts were called to the scene earlier this evening, closing the road between the Capps Lane junction and Lower Road junctions.
Chief inspector Charlie Dibble said: "We have discovered an old grenade which has been dug up in a field, and we are dealing with it in a controlled way."
The bomb disposal unit were called and the training grenade was declared safe shortly after 7.30pm, and the road reopened.
