The family fun day planned for July 26 to raise money for our Give Us A Chance appeal has become so big it has found a new venue.

Paul and Hilary Hams, whose three-year-old grandson Isambard Pickford goes to Devizes Opportunity Centre, were going to stage the event in a field at the back of their home in Worton but it has already outgrown the site.

Now the Worton Fun Day is to be held on land at the back of the Bodman coach depot in the village. Coach firm owners John and Christine Bodman, who own the field, are adding to the planned activities by organising a fun dog show.

Isambard’s mum Rachael Pickford said: “The fun day has become too big for our field. We would like to say thank you to all the lovely people who are offering to help.

"We hope this will raise a large amount of money for Devizes Opportunity Centre.”

Mr and Mrs Hams, who run Hams Transport in Devizes, came up with the idea of the fete when they heard about centre’s financial problems.

Gazette readers have already helped to raise more than our original £10,000 target but are continuing to organise events and give cash to help the centre make up the £50,000 in funding shortfall it will experience in 2014/15.

Isambard, who has diplegia cerebral palsy, which affects his mobility, attends the centre twice a week and has made a lot of progress since starting there a year ago.
