A local man was attacked and wounded with a hammer in an unprovoked assault near the Beehive pub last night.

The 37-year-old victim was set upon by three men on Prospect Hill, near to the Beehive pub, shortly before 5pm last night and needed to be taken to hospital for treatment on his injuries.

He has since been discharged and his injuries are not thought to be serious.

The three men are described as being white, aged in their late teens to early 20s. One of the men was wearing a grey hoodie.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "A 37-year-old male from Swindon was assaulted in Prospect Hill yesterday, shortly before 5pm by three unknown males.

"A hammer was used during the attack and the victim received injuries resulting in him being taken to GWH and kept overnight.

"We would appeal for any witnesses who were in the Prospect Hill area between 4.30pm and 5.15pm to contact us."
