Magpie Music in Chippenham tripled its takings on the weekend’s Record Store Day compared to a normal Saturday.

The shop in the Market Place stocked special vinyl releases made exclusively for the day and sold out of Johnny Cash’s With His Hot and Blue Guitar.

This debut album was released in 1957 and was out of print, but was remastered and reissued on an exclusive blue colour 12 inch vinyl for Record Store Day. Those who bought a copy have one of only 3,000 made.

Wiltshire singer-guitarist Chris Weston helped celebrate the day by playing two sets of his folk songs.

This year was the seventh Record Store Day, and a first for Magpie Music.

The record shop opened in 2009 but the owners say they have seen a boom in trade since moving from the attic downstairs in April last year.

Partner Kate Goodman said: “The move has made a huge difference, people know we are here now we have a shop window.

"Record Store Day is a great day, it brought a lot of new people in.”
