SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb will not be taking anything for granted as his side look to secure their place in the Southern League Division One West play-offs.

Supermarine are in pole position to claim fifth after their win against Merthyr last weekend and with Shortwood losing to Cirencester on Monday.

A win will guarantee their post-season spot and they play Bishop’s Cleeve who are safe from relegation but have endured a tough season, including a 3-0 defeat to Marine in December.

On paper, Webb’s side are certainly favourites but Webb says that the strength of the league means that nothing can be taken for granted.

Asked whether any of his side might alreay have their minds on the play-offs Webb said: “Definitely not, we’ve slipped up a few times, you can’t look too far ahead, the fluctuation of results show the competiveness of league.

“We’re not underestimating them because they’ve beaten some huge sides. They’ll come and want to win the game, they got beat narrowly by Shortwood last week, they’ve got a few players they can hurt us with going the other way. We need to treat them with ultimate respect, go in confident, relaxed and try and play, we can’t go for anything else a but a win, we need to take our chances.”

“It’s a huge game for the club, you know, to get into the play-offs is always the club’s aim we managed that last season, hopefully Saturday we can do that again, it’s a fantastic position for us to be in.”

In the return fixture back in December Marine won 3-0, a result that looked simple but Webb insists it was anything but.

“It was far from comfortable, there was a horrible gale-force wind, some balls were hitting the wind and going back from where they came from, it was a really treacherous day. Ash Edenborough and Jon Steadman got us through it.”

For Saturday’s game Edenborough and Dave Bampton will be available having missed Monday’s draw with Guildford.
