Half a FlyMo lawnmower, a traffic cone and a pair of trousers were among the 31-bag haul of rubbish retrieved from the towpath of the Kennet and Avon Canal in Devizes this week by volunteers from Marks & Spencer.
Twenty-one members of staff from the local branch turned up at the Caen Hill flight of locks on Monday to tidy up the popular tourist attraction. They picked up dozens of bottles, cardboard boxes and cigarette packets.
Steve Manzi, the Canal & River Trust’s volunteer co-ordinator, said: “It was a great day, and huge thanks go to the M&S volunteers for their work. Caen Hill is one of the most beautiful and popular sections of the canal anywhere in the country.
“The local community do a huge amount to support it and events like this are a great help to keep it in the condition it deserves.”
