THE Wiltshire guests proved a real irritant at the Somerset Schools County Combined Events Championships at Millfield School – as they completed a hat-trick of victories.

Emily Dixon, Grace Davies-Redmond and Rory Howorth may not have returned to Wiltshire with medals, by virtue of their guest status, but they made their mark.

St Augustine’s School student Dixon won every one of her seven disciplines in the senior girls’ heptathlon with the 18-year-old setting a personal best in the 100m hurdles with 14.42secs.

Her other marks included a shot putt of 10.20m, high jump of 1.66m, long jump of 5.09m, 30.91m for the javelin, 26.55secs in the 200m and 2:48.03 in the 800m. Her points total of 4581 was only 68 outside her personal best.

Bradford on Avon-based 15-year-old Davies-Redmond matched her friend by coming first in all her events in the intermediate girls’ heptathlon, setting bests in the high jump with 1.60m and shot put with 10.82m.

Her total of 4581 points was another personal best by 29 points.

Howorth, 11, was competing in his first outdoor quadrathlon, winning with a combined total of 996. The Hilperton youngster won three of his four events, setting bests in the 100m with 13.88secs and shot putt with 7.84m. His 800m time was 2:18.61 and he cleared 4.26m in the long jump.

Several county athletes were also in action for the composite Team Avon in the opening National Youth Development U20/17s League, Midland Premier Division One match in Birmingham.

Winsley’s Alex Carter, 18, delivered maximum points with victories in the U20 men’s 1500m (4:04.17) and 3000m (8:32.44).

Westbury sprinter Will Kennedy was runner-up in both the U17 men’s 100m & 200m in 11.26secs and 22.97.

Melksham Oak School student Will Stockley, 15, was runner-up in the 1500m and the 3000m, recording a best of 9:14.78 in the latter.

Bowerhill’s Emily Hutchinson piled up the points in the U20 women’s throws with third in the shot, fourth in the discus and fourth in the B javelin.

Amelia Hempleman-Adams, from Box, finished runner-up in the high jump with 1.60m and John of Gaunt sprinter Zoe Mattacks added points in the U17 women’s B 100 and 300m events.
