Families discovered gardening can be fun when they took part in an event in Hillworth Park, Devizes, on Saturday.

Plant in the Park was organised by the Devizes and Roundway in Bloom committee. Children were kept busy making a lacewing hotel, a seedy apple feeder, decorating pots and planting sunflower and pumpkin seeds in them.

Carole Berry, the town council’s direct services manager, said: “It was a huge success. People started arriving from 9.30am and it was steady all day long.

“Everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. The Waiblingen Way Residents Association brought along plants and anyone who brought a plant along could take another one away. We’ve still got some left over if anyone would like to drop in to the park centre some time.”

Plant in the Park was just one of a programme of events taking place at Hillworth Park over the summer.

There will be a martial arts event on May 17 and a Regency tea party and celebration of the completion of the ha-ha project takes place on May 25.
