Westbury United Football Club manager Matt Bown has organised a charity football match and fundraising day at the club in aid of Cancer Research on Sunday.

Mr Bown, 42, who previously coached Chippen-ham Town and played for Trowbridge and Melk-sham, decided to arrange the fundraiser after his partner Lindsay’s mum was diagnosed.

The event, starting at 9am at Westbury United’s Meadow Lane ground, will include a youth match between Westbury United and Bradford Town, as well as a raffle, bouncy castle and beat the keeper contest.

Also set to clash are a team put together by former Chippenham Town manager Adie Mings and Chippenham Town FA Vase final 2000 captain Lee Burns’ Chippenham Town veteran’s team.

Mr Bown said: “We also have lots of activities for families and children to enjoy, including bouncy castles, raffles and there will be a barbecue on for most of the day. We have some great prizes for the raffle, including a signed Swindon Town shirt.

“All the money will go to Cancer Research which I chose because my partner’s mum was recently diagnosed and is going through chemotherapy currently.

“My uncle also died from cancer.”

Admission on the day is free. Gates open at 9am, with kick-off for the match between Adie Mings XI and the FA Vase final team at 2pm.

Mr Bown said: “I haven’t got a target in mind, we just want to raise as much as we possibly can.”
