Cycling pair raise cash in girl’s honour

This Is Wiltshire: Chris Tong Chris Tong

Civil servant Chris Tong is to cycle 420 miles to raise money in memory of a little girl who shared his love of singing.

Jemima Prees from Colerne died in a skiing accident in February 2012 but her memory has been kept alive by her parents, who set up Jemima’s Gift.

Jemima, ten, and parents Karen and Tim were all members of Colerne Amateur Operatic Society where Mr Tong is also a member.

Mr Tong, 31, and his partner Ceri Lyn-Adams, 28, have taken on a sporting challenge in aid of Jemima’s Gift.

On the anniversary of Jemima’s death, her parents wrote on the website: “We have been able, with the generous help of friends, colleagues, family and many people whom we had not met before, to spend over £33,000 in gifts to enable children to get the most out of life.”

Mr Tong and Miss Lyn-Adams, who live in Yate, will take part in the side-to-side ride from St David’s in Pembrokeshire to Lowestoft in Suffolk from June 20 to 27.

Miss Lyn-Adams, who works as civil servant in Swindon, said: “We are both keen cyclists but have been training hard since January.”

She will be raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK in memory of her grandfather and godfather.
