Campaigners in Gastard say they were jumping for joy last week when council planners sided with them after a two-year campaign.
Holistic therapist Shelley Harrop was among residents opposed to a plan by Octavian Vaults for a wine storage warehouse off the B3353 to house up to 300,000 chilled bottles. The firm hoped to build additonal storage after it had filled its underground vaults, which are used to store rare bottles.
Mrs Harrop was joined by 44 others at Wiltshire Council’s northern area planning committee meeting on April 23 when the plan was unanimously rejected, with one abstention.
She said: “Common sense prevailed. You just couldn’t have something that size, and on the screen it looked even worse.”
