ROYAL Wootton Bassett is preparing to welcome in a new mayor at a mayor-making ceremony next week.
At a special meeting, which will also include the town council’s annual general meeting, the town will say goodbye to outgoing mayor Linda Frost and greet her successor, the current deputy mayor, Susan Hughes.
Susan has been a Royal Wootton Bassett town councillor for three years and has already announced that her nominated charity for the year will be homelessness support group the Filling Station.
She said: “Living a life of benefits created by the work of my family and community, I can see how good things can be. Volunteering for the Filling Station, I can see what life can look like without that.
“It is the contrast of these lives that motivates me to give back to my community in gratitude for what I have had, and to make some mark in bridging the gap for those who haven’t had.”
The mayor making will take place on May 16 in St Bartholomew and All Saints Church in the High Street.
The event will start at 7pm and visitors will also be able to enjoy refreshments afterwards.
