TODAY the Adver is launching the Star for Starlight campaign to bolster support for one of Prospect Hospice’s largest fundraising events, the Starlight Walk.

The concept is simple. Readers are invited to post a photo of a person they deeply admire – a relative or friend who inspires them to always strive for more or simply to live life to the fullest – on social media including Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

They should then nominate someone else to post their own Star for Starlight and register to the Wroughton Hospice’s annual amble on Saturday, June 28.

The new initiative is part of the Adver’s 160 Appeal, which started in February in a bid to raise £160,000 towards end-of-life care at the hospice by the end of December.

Pauline Cole, picture desk manager at the Adver will be joining hundreds of walkers at the moonlit stroll and is encouraging hundreds more to sign up to the fun night out for Prospect’s terminally-ill patients and staff.

“My inspirations for this are my children and my grandchildren,” she said. “Everybody has been affected by cancer in one way or another through someone they know. Here, we see stories about it every day.

“It’s vital that people support and give money to the hospice. It’s a terrible disease. Without money what would these people do?

“I am doing the walk because I care and it’s important that we all care.

“I admire anybody who works with and copes with these struggles.”

This year’s Starlight Walk theme is ‘Light up The Night’ and participants are encouraged to wear bright colours and come equipped with plenty of glow sticks.

“The Starlight Walk is a great opportunity to get involved in a fundraising event for your local hospice, raising much-needed funds for the nurses and clinical staff who deliver the care to hundreds of patients each year,” said Prospect fundraiser Genevieve Arney.

“There’s always a fun element to the walk particularly as it’s such a great event for groups to get involved in, and we think with this year theme Starlight 2014 will be no exception.”

To sign up to the Starlight Walk visit www.prospect-hospice.net/ starlight Registration is £15 and a sponsorship of £100 is suggested.

Participants will have a choice between a 10km and 15km route.

People who inspire us

This Is Wiltshire:

“My sister Tami Brown died at Prospect Hospice two years ago. They were fantastic with her, taking care of her every need. We walked it with her when she was ill. This will be a nice way for us to give something back” Heidie Beales

“The person who inspires me the most is my mum Jane Thornton. She has been a childminder for 20 years, being a second mum to over 100 children. All of the children's parents would agree she is an amazing role model”
